How do tarot cards work?- part I

I received an email asking about how tarot cards could work, and is there energy stored in tarot cards. (feel free to leave comment, by the way). This is only one small part of the answer as to how tarot cards work. More will come throughout the following lessons.
One explanation of how tarot cards work is that each card reflects an archetype, or a typical human emotion or experience (losing a lover, cheating in a business deal/ being cheated, entering/exiting adolescence). Each card has a certain energy associated with it, corresponding to the energy of what it represents. When a querent asks the tarot, s/he is in a certain energetic state, thinking about certain energies, or projecting certain energies in the question asked of the tarot or to the tarot card reader. When the querent asks the tarot, and the cards are shuffled and cut, (or the tarot reader cuts the cards for her/him, with her/his left hand*), the cards which have an energy in harmony with the question, or the questioner, will be drawn to the appropriate position in the tarot deck.
* why the left hand to cut the cards? The tarot card reader want to get the logical, left brain out of the way as much as possible. In general, the right half of the brain controls the movements of the left arm and hand. Hence, using the left hand will preferentially engage the right hemisphere of the brain, which is more in contact with instinct, spirit and the unconscious.
