The Celtic Cross tarot spread: Inspiration and possible future

6th Mar 2008

Hello and blessings,

Thanks for joining me in my study of the tarot cards. I recently have been writing about the Celtic Cross tarot card layout. We discussed the framework with the first three cards, (see previous posts). Then, we discussed, card 4, distant past, and tarot card 5, recent past/now. In this lesson I will write about tarot cards six and seven, representing the present and the possible future.

Tarot Card 6, Inspirations, what is above you

When using a Celtic Cross layout, the sixth tarot card in is placed directly above the first three tarot cards in the center (the tarot reader may say, this card is above you). Tarot card six will reveal the questioner’s inner aspirations regarding the subject. It usually will reveal what she thinks she will do, when she is giving herself every benefit of the doubt. It is the querent’s highest inspirations for herself. The tarot card reader may also glean the questioner’s spiritual intuition about the issue through tarot card six.

The tarot reader may want to help the querent focus on the energy in the the sixth card. It is often one of the areas where the questioner’s physical reality is subject to change by direct intervention of conscious thought and altered behavior.

Tarot Card 7, Possible future, what is before you

Tarot card seven is often the card the querent is waiting to hear: that is, some kind of results, what is gong to happen. It is not the end of the reading, and therefore not the final result. That honor is reserved for the final card. Tarot card seven is placed to the right of the first three tarot cards. Tarot card seven thus completes a diamond around the first three cards. Tarot card seven will display a likely future. One in which the querent does not change any of her habitual patterns of behavior. This future reflects the end result of many cumulative issues that are already set into motion. This doesn’t mean, however, that the result cannot yet be changed. That’s the wonderful thing about the future: it hasn’t happened yet, and is therefore subject to influence. The tarot reader will see the most likely outcome, given the factors already set into motion, reflected in card seven.

How the reader tells her story about the tarot cards will depend greatly on the results foretold. If everything looks great, then it is a relatively easy reading. The querent’s instincts will lead her right where she needs to go. If, however, that is not the situation, the tarot card reader can look to tarot card 6, as well as any other positive cards in the reading, to find guidance for the questioner. The tarot card reader should always endeavor to help the querent become as aware as possible so she can do what she needs to at the moment to increase the chances of a positive outcome.
