Choose a tarot card deck, perhaps circular tarot cards?

25th Feb 2008

Hello and blessings,

Before you can learn how to ask the tarot, you must choose a tarot card deck. I have heard that a deck must be given to you, or you must find the cards: that is not the case (although, if you really believe that to be true, then, of course, it will be true for you). Although it is awesome if someone gives you a deck, or you discover one in your grandmother’s attic, that is not how most modern-day tarot card readers come across their decks. Besides, even if you found one that way, you might not resonate with it. For example, the rider-waite tarot deck is very popular, perhaps the most popular; however, I do not particular enjoy it. You can find the rider-waite tarot deck here: House of Tarot

Another popular deck is the Witch’s tarot. You can see eight examples of the Witch’s tarot at email tarot card readings (the eight rectangular cards). This one was my favorite (beautiful visuals, very female friendly) until I discovered a circular tarot card deck. Today I usually use the Motherpeace Tarot, by Karen Vogel and Vicki Noble. You can see a sample circular tarot layout, using the circular tarot cards by clicking here: email tarot card readings . I like the circular cards for many reasons, the foremost being that the tarot cards can land in positions other than upright, or reversed.

The tarot card can land a little to the right, a little to the left, or a lot to the right or a lot to the left. A circular card can land in any position and can give you a wider degree of variables.  You can receive more information from a card that can land in the equivalent of yes, no, or 360 degrees of maybe. Also, I enjoy the aesthetics of the cards. There are two sizes for the Motherpeace deck, and many different sizes of tarot decks, overall.

Go look at the tarot card decks, (all of the cards in the deck that you think you like), and feel them. If a merchant will not let you feel them, go somewhere else (you do not have to go to a psychic fair, even popular book stores, like Borders, carry tarot cards nowadays. However, you might not find as large of a selection as if you go to a self-help/spirituality/new age store). If you find a good new age store, you’ll probably see the best selection. You will also likely have someone behind the counter who has used one or more of the decks, and will be happy to talk about why s/he likes about the cards. Choose the tarot deck that pleases you the most, and go ahead and buy it for yourself. You can also find selections online (for example, at: House of Tarot ). If you find one online that feels right, go for it. I personally usually go feel them first.

Coming soon: How to clense and store energy in your new tarot card deck, and the most popular full layout, the cross or the Celtic cross. Then, I will begin my discussion of my study of the tarot cards themselves. I hope you are ready to choose a tarot deck.
