The Circular Tarot Card Reading Layout: The Inner Circle
14th Feb 2008
Hello and blessings,
After false starts with writing this lesson, I have decided to make this next lesson on how to read the tarot cards with a circular tarot card layout. I know I said that I would teach you how to read tarot cards with the Celtic Cross layout; and, I will do just that . . . after I provide a lesson on how to do a circular tarot spread. Using the circle as the form for placing the tarot cards is my favorite form for a tarot reading. It goes well with the circular tarot cards that I use (Motherpeace tarot card deck, by Vicki Noble and Karen Vogel) and is a natural choice for symbolic reasons beyond this article.
You can see a sample of a circular tarot card layout with the circular cards here: email tarot reading
The circular tarot card layout I use has three parts. This layout is actually a circle within a circle. The first component of the circular tarot card layout is the inner circle.
The inner circle, tarot cards one through three
The first tarot card (which will be the top card in a 3 card circle, can also be seen as a triangle) reflects the state of the questioner. Strong emotions or habitual patterns of thinking that are coming to the forefront will be reflected here. This card reflects what is going on in the person’s heart.
The second tarot card will be placed below and to the left of the first card, and it reveals the situation causing the question. What has happened to bring the querent to the tarot cards for assistance and guidance? What is going in in the querent’s mind and physical reality? What is causing the questioner’s emotional state? In this card you will see the situation as it stands now.
The third tarot card, which is placed to the right of the second card, reveals the conflict or challenge faced by the querent. There is usually much information to be gleaned from this card (especially when taken into consideration with what the other cards reveal). The meaning in this card reflects the underlying reason for this person as to why this situation is happening right now in this way in the here and now.
The reason why the tarot cards work, and are so powerful is that everything is energy, and we determine what happens in our own physical realities with our inner realities of our thoughts and emotions. Our physical reality is determined by the habitual patterns of thinking in our minds, which in turn are created by our beliefs, and given power by our emotions. Whatever is going on in our lives is always a reflection of who we are. Although there is an infinite amount of combinations of emotions and thoughts in our Universe, reflected in the vast diversity of individuals we experience, there are also some very basic thought patterns, which many of us share. In line with Jungian archetypes, the tarot cards reflect the most common patterns of human thought, emotion and experience.
