Tarot card meaning, II High Priestess
29th Apr 2008
The meaning of the second Major Arcana card in the Tarot, is The High Priestess. The High Priestess is about looking inside for answers. The High Priestess is on her path to power and is not letting the ideas of others, or of social convention, change her mind. When the High Priestess comes up in a tarot reading, the questioner is or was on her true path towards happiness. We all have one.
Sometimes, we forget where we want to go, and lose track of our path. It may take a while to figure out we have gotten off track; but, eventually, things start going wrong, or we don’t feel right about what is happening. Or perhaps just unhappy. Then, the High Priestess may land reversed. Or perhaps, if the questioner is about to take an action that would take her away from her joy, the High Priestess may come up reversed.
Another occasion in which the High Priestess may come up reversed is when the questioner is listening to people, or dogmas, instead of listening to her own heart and instincts. Humans can be very herd-like in our behavior. It is good to take stock, and make sure we are not just taking a path because everyone seems to think that path is a good one.
If the tarot card reader is using circular cards, like The Tarot Card Reader, s/he may see The High Priestess come up to the left when a questioner cannot quite find her path. She is striving for it, and is almost on the right track; but, something is off. She may need to look within (and that does not mean call everyone she knows and ask them what they think), and see what the right decision is. If the card lands to the right, the questioner may be trying to force a path that is not best for her. When this arises, as a tarot card reader, try to advise more zen-like behavior: one want to be more like the leaf that flows down the river on top of the currents, not the ship of rowers, trying to made headway upriver.
